Sense and sensibility

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY tells the story of the Dashwood family, who lose everything when Mr. Dashwood falls suddenly and fatally ill and is forced by law to leave his fortune and his vast estate to his son by a previous marriage. The family's reduced circumstances cast a shadow over the romantic aspirations of daughters Elinor (Emma Thompson) and Marianne (Kate Winslet), who must learn to mix sense with sensibility in approaching their problems with both money and men. Hugh Grant plays Elinor's elusive suitor Edward, Alan Rickman plays the haunted Colonel Brandon who yearns for Marianne, and newcomer Greg Wise plays the dashing Willoughby who steals Marianne's heart.
